Cinnamon~~~Nutmeg or allspice(use only 1/4 of the amount)

Saffron~~~dash turmeric(for color)

Herbs:

Anne,
I love your substitutions lists. I am spice/seasonings challenged and never seem to have the right ones on hand. I am going to copy this and paste it in my files.
Thanks with hugs,
Judy

Annie,

Thank you for the tips, we have a substitute for saffron knowing that saffron is a very expensive one, it is similar to saffron but less expensive.
Sorry for the late comment, I am catching up now.

This is a good list. I've linked to this on The Wordsmith's Forge and on Cheap Cookin' (both LiveJournal).

I too love to bake and be in the kitchen. My favorite substitutions are with my banana bread recipe. Instead of banana's I will use apple butter, canned pumpkin or applesauce. Thanks for all of your great ideas!
